About the Artist

Barbara Casini is a singer, guitarist and songwriter. At a very young age she immersed herself into studying and learning MPB (Música Popular Brasileira). She lived for a long time in Brazil, traveling and deepening her connection to the culture of this beautiful country, earning the respect of all the major Brazilian artists, who consider her a true ambassador of their music in the world.

During her career she collaborated with important names in different music genres: Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, Fabrizio Bosso, Phil Woods, Lee Konitz, Toninho Horta, Guinga. She spearheaded several bands, with whom she appeared at the biggest music festivals in Italy.

As an artist, she appears on more than 20 albums, sometimes as a songwriter, like “Todo o Amor” (Philology, 1997) but also re-interpreting classic songs by Caetano Veloso (Philology, 2003), Jobim (Philology, 2004), Chico Buarque (Philology, 2007), Gilberto Gil (Philology, 2011) as well as creating a very unique blend of genres like in the album “Vento” (Label Bleu, 2000), recorded with Enrico Rava and a chamber orchestra, Accademia Filarmonica della Scala, and “Agora Tá” (Via Veneto Jazz, 2012) with a big-band, Jazz Orchestra of Sardinia, both with arrangements of Paolo Silvestri. Barbara also explored the world of theater through music, translating song lyrics and prose pieces and re-adapting them for the stage.

Her most recent works are “Uma Mulher” (Philology, 2015) with Banda Dupla featuring her original compositions and “Terras” (Jando Music, 2016) with Duo Taufic (Roberto Taufic on guitars and Eduardo Taufic on piano), a homage to the music of Nordeste Brazil.

Her latest work, recorded in 2019 in Brazil with Toninho Horta, features illustrious artists Chico Buarque, Joyce Moreno and Ebu Lobo and will be released in Italy by Encore and in Brazil by the prestigious label Biscoito Fino.

Barbara Casini is also an author: her book “Se Tutto e’ Musica” is a beautiful journey into the fascinating worlds of the most iconic Brazilian artists, talking about their approach to the delicate and mysterious process of composing music. The book, published by Angelica Editore, features Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Edu Lobo, Hermeto Pascoal, Miúcha and many more.
