From a honeycomb to the bud of a flower to the neural network of the brain, all forms of life are composed of intricate patterns underlined by a basic matrix. Everything in the universe is connected. Through Sacred Geometry we can trace patterns of Creation and by contemplating it we can relax our sense of unity in the perfection of chaos and order.

Sacred Geometry is a vision - by understanding life through all of its creation, we realize that sacredness is all around us, from the new formation of a life cell to the decomposing organic bodies. Drawing geometry aligns our mental function, our emotional hearts and the energy of action to the purpose of opening to that sacred space, beauty and serenity.

In this weekly course, we will learn the construction of basic geometry going through all division of two to ten. In each of our four meetings we will be guided step by step through the process of starting the drawing of a mandala from a blank paper through the coloring. We will learn about the symbolism behind shape, numbers and colors. After one hour and a half you will have a beautiful mandala!

All mandalas are inspired by the deep wisdom and vision of the Middle Eastern traditions, which is elaborated in its architecture and various expressions of art from Morocco all the way to India.

Anyone with passion for the wonders of life, art, nature and the universe, are welcome!

Materials: paper, pencil or mechanical pencil, eraser, ruler, compass, watercolor paints or watercolor pencils.

Detailed Program:

Each class we will choose a planet to talk about its qualities according to occidental astrology as well as some scientific characteristics to consider, such as its orbit as we create our mandala starting from a blank piece of paper, constructing dots and lines and finishing it with water color pencils.

This practice invites us to contemplate a bigger perspective of ourselves as part of an infinite mandala that is the universe. How can we contemplate the universe by observing ourselves as a micro part of the macro cosmos? We begin our class with such reflections and then go on to the practical art of sacred geometry, shown step by step to anchor our presence. When it is done we will flow in the waters of colors celebrating our creativity!

Session 1 | July 9th

Today we will contemplate characteristics and relations of the Sun and the Moon, considering the relations of polarities such as female energy and masculine energy. The stable sun and the moon with so many phases and turns, where we will be inspired to do a mandala relating number 28, considering the 27, 3 days of a moon's cycle.

Session 2 | July 16th

Today we will contemplate the relation of Earth and Venus and our relation to love and possessions in the world. Venus orbits the Sun 13 times for every 8 Earth orbits. If one tracks the relative positions of Earth and Venus over an 8 year period, the resulting pattern is a beautiful 5 flower shape. We will be inspired by this shape and create a mandala relating the number 5.

Session 3 | July 23rd

Today we will contemplate the orbit of Mars in relation to Earth. We will contemplate what kind of fire moves us in life, how we balance strength and aggressiveness. And today we will construct a mandala relating to the number 7.

Session 4 | July 30th

Today we will look into the qualities of the "heavy" planets: Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, bringing subjects very important in our lives, our limits, our shadows and fear of death. By contemplating their transits we can turn challenges in opportunities and this is actually how they stimulate growth in our lives. And we will celebrate our last class of this series with a Torus Mandala.
